| Description of my experience in the village of Azama |
|
During the visit to Ecuador, my friend
and I were fortunate to be able to join a group that was helping a small
village. They were building a school and clinic in a wonderful village
called Azama. What an incredibly profound experience! The people in the
village were overwhelmingly grateful for every effort, no matter how big
or small, from each person. The culminating event was a fiesta that the
town put together to celebrate the people who had built their new school
and clinic. Julie and I were invited and considered to be part of the honored
guests. The people danced in traditional costumes for hours ... one group
after another, from the children to the adults. At the end, they presented
gifts to all of us. Julie and I were presented with necklaces. We
were deeply touched by their generosity. That day, those people, those
children are forever in my memory and my heart.
